The Phantom Tollbooth dir. Chuck Jones, Abe Levitow and David Monahan, US, 1968/70, video, 90 mins, color. Butch Patrick (TV’s Eddie Munster) plays Milo, the young boy who travels to another world through a mysterious tollbooth he receives as a gift. The majority of the film takes place in the animated lands of Dictionopolis, The Mountains of Ignorance and the Doldrums. Looney Tunes’ mainstay Mel Blanc voices many of the strange characters. Destination: Animation--a journey to the mysterious, far-away lands of some of the most memorable animated films from the pre-computer animation era. Each screening is free and takes place in the International House courtyard. Bring blankets and lawn chairs and your spirit of adventure.
