SPECIAL EVENTS

Colonial Farm Day and Camp Militia at Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation
June 4, 2011
During the Revolutionary War, local farmers and their wives and children would gather at a farm and drill as part of the militia. The 11th Pennsylvania militia unit will assemble at the Plantation on Saturday, June 4. Drill and military affairs were only a small part of the gathering. Colonists socialized and exchanged information on farming, political events and plain local gossip. Our gathering will include washing wool, skirting wool, and spinning, weaving and working with flax. You may harvest spring vegetables and pinch herbs to take home. Our farmer will be plowing the fields. If you wish to avoid the farm work, then we will have authentic colonial tea to sample plus colonial dancing. Of course, there will be some gunfire when the militia drills. There will be a children’s drill to encourage future recruits. Sorry, no credit cards accepted.
