Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
June 23, 2011
Presented by Unionville May Play Society
Murder is thwarted, desires aborted, business supported…and a certain vengeful barber is back in business. After fifteen years imprisonment on a false charge, Benjamin Barker returns to Fleet Street under the assumed name of Sweeney Todd, hungry for the blood of those who wronged him in the past. His downstairs neighbor, the talented Mrs. Lovett, helps guarantee that justice is—literally—served. Ah, it’s just another day in London.
For an evening of gripping drama, dark comedy, and soaring music, come join the Unionville May Play Society for Steven Sondheim’s musical thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Love, vengeance, hope, blackmail, and the occasional unsavory meat pie combine for a memorable show, whose powerful musical numbers and compelling characters will leave you hungry for more. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Book by Hugh Wheeler.
The May Play Society is an organization that presents student produced plays.
All proceeds will benefit the Association for the Colonial Theatre.
