This special opportunity for upper elementary through high school teachers is presented in cooperation with the Art and Science Program of the Stroud Water Research Center. Educator Vivian Williams will teach participants how to engage students in a schoolyard treasure hunt using the techniques of letterboxing. Following a clues trail will teach students identification skills, the use of mapping tools, taking measurements, descriptive writing and artistic design. By documenting the features of their schoolyard using multidisciplinary skills, students experience an adventure that supports their understanding of a sense of place. Participants also come away with an understanding of how land use influences the quality of water in the landscape. Participants are eligible for eight Act 48 credits through the Stroud Water Research Center. Bring a bag lunch, small beach chair and water bottle; breakfast, beverages and snacks will be provided.
