The Betsy Ross House hosted its first Flag Day event on June 14, 1891 and has long been the site of the city’s official commemoration. For Flag Fest 2011: A Turn of the Century Celebration, visitors are invited to step back in time to those early celebrations when patriotic fervor was at its peak and the dawn of the new century filled Americans with excitement.

The entertainment promises to transport visitors back to those heady early days of the 20th century. The Stars & Stripes Stage in the House’s courtyard will play host to a vaudeville-style show, the always popular Give & Take Jugglers and the Centennial Brass Band. In addition, for the first time this year, the acrobats from the Funicular Aerial Circus will wow the crowds with their high-flying feats. A Victorian-style street fair takes over Arch Street for Flag Fest and, in addition to a showcase of vendors offering handmade wares, organizers have planned even more interactive entertainment streetside. Highlights include a classic car show, a strolling Uncle Sam, performances by a traditional organ grinder and his monkey, Django, and the well-known and loved Punch & Judy puppet show. Also returning for 2011 is the Patriotic Pet Parade.
