XPN Welcomes Willie Nile & Freedy Johnston
August 19, 2011
DOUBLE DOSE OF SONGWRITING BRILLIANCE! The New York Times calls Willie Nile "one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years" & has been called "a one-man Clash" (UNCUT) and his critically acclaimed albums have gotten rave reviews around the world; Bono, Lou Reed & Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows are among those who have sung his praises. Willie Nile is a songwriters’ songwriter - as exemplified by his his songs “Golden Down” & “Heaven Help the Lonely” - and his live performances are legendary! (Cabaret seating is reserved for Theater Members until 6/19/11)
“Willie Nile is a great artist. If there was any justice in this world, I’d be opening up for him instead of him for me.” – Lucinda Williams
“Willie’s so good I can’t believe he’s not from New Jersey.” – Little Steven
Freedy Johnston’s songs are deservedly praised for their literary quality but they also hit you on a gut level. Although he’s consistently released several exceptional albums, Freedy is best known for “This Perfect World” which includes his breakthrough hit “Bad Reputation”; Rolling Stone and Spin also hailed Freedy’s album Can You Fly a masterpiece.
