The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM), in an exchange with the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space, Miami, presents the video installation Fighting Kissing Dancing, organized by curator and artist Carlos Rigau, featuring video works by Miami and New York based artists Nancy Garcia, Justin H. Long, Jillian Mayer, Martin Murphy, Sleeper, Viking Funeral, and Bryan Zanisnik. On view at FWM’s The New Temporary Contemporary, Fighting Kissing Dancing is a curated video space consisting of a single-channel video projection, a viewing area with a bench and a grip bar, and a neon sculpture that brings to mind the form of cinema, television and computer screens. Visitors are provided with a familiar environment in which to engage with works of contemporary art. The three actions referenced in the installation’s title commonly occur in traditional narrative film for emotional effect and are likewise employed by the artists in the exhibition as a means of exploring ideas surrounding the human form, its interactions and intimacies.
