MUSIC
In the Round w/John Schmitt, Lizanne Knott, Chris Kasper
April 15, 2011
John Schmitt was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, and his songs are a direct reflection of his experiences growing up there. His simple, honest approach tells stories that hit at the heart of American life. Blending a folk-meets-soul style to go along with thoughtful lyrics and images, John sings about his life in real terms. His album "Ophelia," due out on 11/12/10, is his loftiest work to date. Produced by Caleb Hawley, we see on "Ophelia" just how life in the city has affected Schmitt, now a resident of Brooklyn, as he takes us along for many stories of life, love, loss, and coffee consumption.
An award winning songwriter, Lizanne Knott has been captivating audiences throughout the Northeast and garnering accolades from radio listeners and peers around the globe. She has performed at some of the most prestigious listening venues, up and down the east coast and throughout England, steadily gaining ground wherever the road takes her. A frequent featured artist on London's acclaimed Bob Harris Show, BBC2 and other BBC stations, she also receives airplay on AAA radio throughout the US and is a local favorite here on Philly's WXPN. Her music has been used in independent films, TV movies, documentaries and by national non-profit organizations. Her most recent 2009/10 release "South of Graceland" rose to the Number 6th spot on Amazon UK for Hot Bestsellers, New and Pre-Release (Country/Americana) putting her on the same page as Rosanne Cash and Taylor Swift.
Chris Kasper is a hard worker who has been doing it the old fashion way, writing and rehearsing, playing shows, and driving to the next club to do it again. The "pond," as they call it, hasn't gotten in his way and he's toured Europe too. All without a manager, a label, or a booking agent. Some of that has recently changed, as Kasper explains, "Things have gone well, but I felt it was time to do more with my music than I can do all on my own." Enter B.O.S. is an indie label with roots in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia; a label known for executing successful grass roots campaigns that bring deserved exposure to good songs and artists willing to work the road. It's a perfect fit for Kasper, who has partnered with B.O.S. to re-release "Flying Boy" and continue the journey.
