SPECIAL EVENTS

Sheep to Shawl
April 30, 2011
Come see costumed workers turn sheep’s winter wool coats into clothing the way Colonial Americans did. Watch workers at Colonial Plantation sheer sheep with hand shears, then clean and wash the fleece. See the wool carded and spun into fiber. Try it yourself! Observe how wool is dyed, knitted and woven into cloth. Watch how workers turn flax grown on the farm into linen cloth. See lace being made. Enjoy the smells while you watch a colonial meal being cooked over the farmhouse kitchen’s open hearth. There will be tours of the kitchen garden, farm and farmhouse too.
