In The Far Walk & a Stairway to the Moon Mina Estrada digs deep to unearth a plethora of emotion to fuel a dance that speaks to her personal and the universal quest to know the “mother.” Estrada’s multicultural upbringing by her Japanese-Korean mother adds a layer to the search for understanding and the complexity of the dance.

“When we are sifting through our inner material, casting light on the judgments we make, when we are assessing our foundation, how do we know what we know? This work is a quest to decode the secrets so that I might find clarity, understanding, truth…not about her, necessarily, but me, and the world that I’ve created, the choices I’ve made, and the woman I think I am.” Mina Estrada

The Far Walk & a Stairway to the Moon was created in collaboration with the dancers: Danielle Kinne, Marcie Mamura, Shavon Norris, Rebekah Rickards, and Chijioke Robinson. Over their nine-month CEC residency period Estrada and her five brilliant dancers have created an emotional landscape that is as multidimensional as the story they seek to tell. Beauty, power, lightness and pain are danced not only on the plains of the theatre floor, but taken onto the risers to further define the complexity of this familial journey.
