Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) returns to the theater to direct this visionary new production of Frankenstein, a play by Nick Dear, based on the novel by Mary Shelley. Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. For the first time ever, National Theatre Live will broaddcast two separate performances of a production. Throughout the run of Frankenstein at the National Theatre, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Dexter) are alternating the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature. Sunday's screening will feature Jonny Lee Miller as Victor and Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature. The actors will switch roles for Wednesday's performance. Both broadcasts will be introduced by BMFI instructor Alice Bullitt, M.A. Please note that this production contains themes of an adult nature.
