Bryn Mawr Film Institute is proud to collaborate with the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts on its inaugural season and, in support of the theme "Paris, 1911", will screen a series of films pertaining to this robust moment in cultural history. The series, entitled Cinematheque - A Month of Film Events will begin on April 5 with Francois Truffaut's classic love story Jules and Jim, a timeless 1962 film that begins its story in Paris in 1912 and concludes after the end of World War I. The screening will be introduced by a French historian who will elaborate on what was happening in Paris during this time period. Carl Theodor Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc will screen on April 12 and will be introduced by a film historian who will talk about silent film. The documentary Ballet Russes will be shown on April 19 and the screening will feature a speaker who will talk about the lasting influence of this pioneering group of artists. The series will conclude with a talk about World War I and a screening of All Quiet on the Western Front on April 26. Valerie Temple, Programming and Community Outreach Coordinator at BMFI, selected the films to be screened in the series.

This event is part of the 2011 Philadelphia International Festival Of The Arts (PIFA).
