With the first shots fired on Fort Sumter, April 12, 1861 marked the start of the Civil War. On this momentous anniversary, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania will host a one-day display of the highlights of its Civil War collection, including copies of Forney’s War Press, soldier diaries, battle maps, sketches of Confederate prisons, and a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation.
