Conserving the Chertoff Mural
February 23, 2011
The first brushstrokes of a wild revolution lived in a quiet room in New York City until 2008, when the Chertoff family made a generous offer: they would donate the mural to the Rosenbach if the museum would pay for its removal and conservation. The museum readily agreed and asked the region’s premier architectural conservators, John Carr and John Milner, to undertake the project. Their team removed the mural--still on the wall--in two massive sections, and transported it first to their studio in Philadelphia then to the Rosenbach, where majority of the conservation work is taking place. At this exciting program, gain insight into the process of bringing the 13-foot mural to the Rosenbach during this engaging event featuring conservators from Milner+Carr Conservation and Patrick Rodgers, the curator the Rosenbach’s Sendak exhibitions.
