In honor of Black History Month, this concert will explore the connection between two great Nationalist composers and will feature spirituals arranged for voice and orchestra by African-American composer Henry Thacker Burleigh, featuring mezzo-soprano Tracie Luck. Antonín Dvorák's epic New World Symphony, which use of African-American spirituals was deeply influenced by Burleigh, will conclude the program.
