Tony Messina and the Father John D'Amico Trio
September 10, 2011
Tony Messina, a native Philadelphian, is a pop/jazz singer/songwriter and actor who's appeared in concerts from coast to coast and internationally at jazz festivals, theatres and nightclubs. After many recordings and performances while living in New York, Tony took a break from singing and moved to Hollywood, where he wrote and sold several screenplays that have yet to be produced. He also sharpened his acting skills for the big screen and television. Messina's rich, warm voice allows him to mix meaningful renditions of selections from The Great American Songbook with original compositions. Tony wrote ten of the eleven songs on his Soft Nights in Vegas album. Tony will be backed by the incomparable Father John D'Amico Trio, one of Philadelphia's top jazz ensembles. Father John" D'Amico is a consummate musician and composer whose style contains elements of Count Bassie, Bill Evans, and early Keith Jarret, but he is definitely his own man. He doesn't let technique get in the way of style. No ego trips for "Father John," he loves what he performs...jazz! It is indisputably classic trio jazz, and he and his trio do it exceedingly well.
