A special thanks to the Delaware Center for Horticulture’s Rare Plant Auction and to Chanticleer for making this lecture possible. The Chatham Islands, known as Rekohu to the Moriori, lie about 860 kilometres from New Zealand yet have distinctive flora with 42 species of endemic plants found nowhere else. It’s not surprising that two of these plants have found an important and enduring place in gardens around the temperate world – the magnificent but often difficult to cultivate Chatham Island forget-me-not, Myosotidium hortensia, and the voguish silvery-leaved Astelia chathamica. Learn more about this mysterious and enduring place from Gordon Collier, former owner of the exceptional New Zealand garden, Titoki Point.
