The Friends of the Oak Lane Library will host a book signing. The library is being opened especially for this event. Free refreshments. The book, Oak Lane, Olney & Logan by Marita Krivda Poxon, Rachel Hildebrandt and the Old York Road Historical Society is being published by Arcadia Publishing Co in their Images of America series of paperbacks with sepia-toned covers, filled with historical images, diligently researched, relating the history of these northern Philadelphia neighborhoods. Also included in the book are chapters on Fern Rock and West Oak Lane as well as East Oak Lane, Olney and Logan. The book contains many interesting sites, and identifies historic homes, buildings, parks, churches, snyagogues, schools, diners, factories, mills, inns and personalities in this northern section of the city from its first occupation shortly after William Penn arrived in the 1680s including Stenton Mansion; the Joseph Wharton estate; the first photograph to identify a farmhouse once owned by a forgotten hero of the American revolution, Christopher Ludwick, the Baker General of the Continental Army; and images of Elisha Kent Kane, an Artic Explorer as famous as Lincoln in the 19th Century; and much more.
