In Search of Memory
January 17, 2011
Part of the Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival's acclaimed Documentaries & Dialogue series. Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel’s charm and exuberance play a major role in this fascinating documentary about one of the most important neuroscientists of the 20th century. Born in Vienna to a lower-class Jewish family, the Kandels fled to the United States to escape Nazi persecution. Since then, Eric (who is a regular guest on the Charlie Rose Show) has devoted his life to understand the brain’s process of obtaining and sustaining memory. Kandel creates a timeline of remembrance of things past in his groundbreaking exploration of what literally makes us tick. Directed by Petra Seeger, 95 minutes. Introduction by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, President Emeritus of Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research and post-film Q&A by Allison Kandel, Granddaughter of Eric Kandel.
