CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Contemporary Israel Cinema Film Class
February 23-March 30, 2011
Contemporary Israel Cinema has produced some outstanding films over the past decade. This discussion-based class will address how issues of contemporary life in Israel are depicted in recent Israeli films and how the filmmakers magnify issues of class, gender, religion, politics and sexual orientation. The format of each class will consist of a brief introduction of a selected film followed by a DVD screening. After a break, there will be a discussion of the film's narrative and important social/cultural/political themes. The class is not theoretical (though some film terms may be used in the lecture/discussion). The films are subtitled in English and contain some or all of the following: profanity, sexual/erotic candor, violence and adult themes/situations. They are recommended for mature audiences.
