Last Friday String Quartet Recital: Liebesfreud
January 28, 2011
Featuring violinists Geoffrey Michaels and Philip Kates, violist David Giles, and cellist Charles Forbes, the Philadelphia based Liebesfreud is an ensemble devoted primarily to the performance of great literature for the string quartet. For this performance, their first of the 2011 season, the featured work will be Ludwig von Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 131 in C# Minor. This composition was considered a favorite by Beethoven himself, and features 7 separate movements that cover 6 distinct key areas. Upon first hearing it, contemporary Franz Schubert remarked "After this, what is left for us to write?"
