A Conversation with Colm Toibin: The Empty Family
January 27, 2011
Irish writer Colm Tóibín is an award-winning novelist, as well as a noted essayist, travel writer, and editor. His novels include The South, winner of the Irish Times/Aer Lingus First Fiction Award; The Master, winner of the Dublin IMPAC Prize and the Los Angeles Times Novel of the Year; and Brooklyn, winner of the Costa Novel of the Year. A collection of his essays on Henry James, All a Novelist Needs, was published in 2010. His new book, The Empty Family, is a collection of exquisite short stories about the torments of the baby boom generation that “resemble a series of prayers,” according to reviewer Keith Miller.
