Each butterfly species is dependent on a few specific plants (host plants) to provide food for its caterpillars. Host plants are being lost to development, deer browsing, and herbicide application for weeds. Home gardeners can help to compensate for this loss by incorporating host plants into garden design. Using photographs taken in the speaker’s home garden, this presentation will identify host plants, the caterpillars that depend on them, and the adult butterflies they will become.
