The Miracle Worker tells the incredible true story of Annie Sullivan (Anne Bancroft), the courageous woman who worked against all odds to teach the blind and deaf Helen Keller (Patty Duke) how to communicate. Arthur Penn, who had also directed the Broadway version, re-teamed with Bancroft and Duke for this onscreen adaptation, for which both stars won Academy Awards.
