PBU Art Initiative: The Psalms Project Exhibits
November 1-December 18, 2010
The community is invited to visit this collection Guests are asked to register at PBU’s Smith Administration Building—South Entrance, PBU would like to thank White Stone Gallery for its partnership in presenting this exhibit. The paintings are meant to create a dialogue about the human condition. The book of Psalms reflects the inner nature of man. We see love, pain, despair, joy, sadness, and confusion. We see these emotions in the context of a higher power. The book of Psalms is like a written diary to God. The Psalms Project tries to convey a visual diary to God. The Psalms Project by Steven Spann is a series of 150 paintings which represent one verse of each chapter in the book of Psalms. The verse is then written into the painting; sometimes in Russian, Dutch, French, English, or Italian. Sometimes the verse is written backwards or upside down, making it illegible to the casual observer. This is reflective of our interaction with scripture. Some days we have clarity some days we do not.
