This special concert will feature the local American roots blues band The Obsoleets sharing the bill with the Chester-based, gospel choir The Rodney Bradley Friends Choir. Each group will perform separate sets and collaborate on a couple of songs as well. The Obsoleets will perform a mixture of acoustic American roots, blues and gospel music. The Obsoleets are a five piece band which feature tenor guitar, mandolin, ukulele, upright bass, banjo, erhu (Chinese violin), can-jo and percussion. Band members consist of John Stovicek (vocal, guitar, mandolin, banjo), Parris Bradley (tenor guitar, ukulele, tiple), Steven Patrick Smith (percussion) and Qin Qian (erhu). With a strong and loyal fan base, The Obsoleets are known for their live performances at blues festivals, art centers and clubs throughout the Delaware Valley and Maryland. Their signature sound comes from the mixture of traditional American acoustic instruments (acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, home-made instruments (canjo, cigar box guitar) and the traditional Chinese instrument erhu played by Qin Qian. The erhu, which is sometimes referred to as the “Chinese Violin”, is a dynamic instrument not traditionally heard in American roots and gospel music. For more information on Qin Qian please visit http://www.myspace.com/qianqin This scintillating sound is not to be missed as The Obsoleets cook up the blues and serve them greasy.
