Afternoon Lecture The Coregency Elite: Hatshepsut's Rise and the Transition to Thutmose III
December 4, 2010
JJ Shirley discusses the Egyptian royal administration during the rise of Hatshepsut, one of Egypt's most famous female rulers, who declared herself co-regent and eventually sole ruler of Egypt when her husband, Thutmose II, died, leaving only a young son by another wife. This presentation examines how the administrative actions taken during Hatshepsut's reign effected the rule of her successor, Thutmose III. Recently a Visiting Lecturer at John Hopkins University, Dr. Shirley has been the Managing Editor for the Journal of Egyptian History, published by Brill, since 2007. This program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Research Center (ARCE-PA).
