The Drexel University Dance Program, in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design’s Department of Performing Arts, begins the 2010-2011 Season with a Dance Lecture-Demonstration on the ballets of George Balanchine. Barbara Sandonato, a former student of Balanchine and member of the Pennsylvania Ballet, will speak about her experiences working with the legendary teacher and choreographer. The students of the Barbara Sandonato School of Ballet will perform a lecture demonstration.

Barbara Sandonato was the founding and principal dancer of the Pennsylvania Ballet when it began in 1962. Prior to joining the PA Ballet, Sandonato was a student of the legendary Russian choreographer, George Balanchine, at the School of American Ballet in New York. She remained a principal dancer at the PA Ballet throughout the 1960’s and early 1970’s. Sandonato currently runs the Barbara Sandonato School of Ballet in Philadelphia.
