This remarkable series of classes and workshops - ten in all - will be offered over five weeks. Events will include slideshows and talks about the art and symbolism of thangka paintings, as well as hands-on drawing and painting workshops in which students will experience this beautiful, meditative form of art first hand.

In this weekend workshop, participants will learn how to draw the Medicine Buddha according to traditional Tibetan Buddhist thangka scroll paintings. The Medicine Buddha is the embodiment of all the Buddhas’ healing qualities associated with healing both physical and mental suffering. His deep blue colour is that of lapis lazuli and has a healing effect on those who use it in visualization practices, which we will also do this weekend. Making a connection with the Medicine Buddha by practicing his meditation, reciting his mantra or even just saying his name helps us achieve our potential for ultimate healing.

The course is suitable for everyone, including beginners with no drawing experience whatsoever. Please bring 2 sheets of thick drawing paper (11”x17” or larger), an 18” ruler, HB pencils (pref. a mechanical pencil), a hard eraser and a soft kneadable grey one. Colored pencils or paints are optional.
