Singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens mixes autobiography, religious fantasy, and regional history to create folk songs of grand proportions. His fascination with epic concepts has motivated the records Michigan and Illinois, and, more recently, a tone poem with film accompaniment for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, commissioned by Brooklyn Academy of Music.
