A celebration of wooden boats and Maritime culture, Independence Seaport Museum's Wooden Boat Festival features visiting boats as well as boats built by the museum's Workshop on the Water. Boat builders will showcase their craftsmanship in the basin adjacent to the museum. Visitors will enjoy hands-on boat-themed activities and crafts by area organizations, giveaways and festive live music by the Cabin Dogs. Visitors are also invited to enjoy a free lecture, part of the ISM Lecture Series. Tim McGrath will present a lecture on John Barry, who was heralded as the father of the American Navy (and the namesake of the Commodore Barry Bridge). McGrath recently published a biography of Barry entitled John Barry, An American Hero in the Age of Sail, which is available for purchase in the museum gift shop.
