Description:The famed pipa (Chinese lute) virtuoso Wu Man joins Orchestra 2001 as soloist in two works (Circle, with Four Trios, Conductor and Audience; Concerto for Pipa and Strings) by Tan Dun (the Academy Award-winning composer of the score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the opera Tea, and The Map) as well as a new piece written for the occasion by May T'Chi Chen. Completing this international program is music inspired by Scottish (Jennifer Margaret Barker: Nyvaigs Beags) and Peruvian (Jay Reise: Lunahuana) cultural traditions.
