The famed pipa (Chinese lute) virtuoso Wu Man joins Orchestra 2001 as soloist in two works by Tan Dun (the Academy Award-winning composer of the score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the opera Tea, and The Map) as well as a new piece written for the occasion by May T'Chi Chen. Completing this international program is music inspired by Scottish and Peruvian cultural traditions.
