Astral Artists, one of the nation’s premier organizations for the career development of emerging classical musicians, presents Who Stole The Mona Lisa? on the opening weekend of the inaugural Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts. A multimedia experience for all ages, the concert features specially commissioned animation and audience participation. First, kitchen utensils go wild in Martinu’s La Revue de Cuisine, then, The Story of Babar is narrated to Poulenc’s charming music. Lastly, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite is the music for a whimsical animated film. One hundred years ago, the Mona Lisa was actually stolen from the Louvre in Paris. In this animation, the Firebird comes to life and participates in solving the mystery. With a cast of zany characters, the animation evokes The Pink Panther and Moulin Rouge. This event is part of the 2011 Philadelphia International Festival Of The Arts (PIFA).
