This is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to make a magnificent mobile and explore the world of kinetic art with California artist Brad Howe who will be having his East Coast debut exhibition in the Duke Gallery at the Community Arts Center, which will open the following day. The day will begin with a brief discussion of kinetic art and mobile mechanics with master mobile maker Brad Howe, followed by a day long adventure in making magnificent mobiles. Brad Howe says mobile making is a “state of mind” and encourages participants to bring along collections of treasures they might like to feature in their mobile masterpiece. Howe stresses that in mobile making, the sky is literally the limit, magical masterpieces can be created from almost any object: autumn leaves, ceramic pieces, wing nuts, fishing lures, plastic cars, hub caps, Barbie dolls, whatever you can imagine. Participants are asked to bring needle nose pliers, items to include in their mobile, a lunch or midday snack and a sense of wonder. Howe promises a day full of art where you will learn, do and share in the making of magnificent mobiles. Space is limited in this workshop. Open to all ages and ability levels, children under the age of 12 must register with an adult for this workshop.
