Solo Series 2010 with Steven Baris, Virginia Bradley, Erica Zoë Loustau and Juri Kim Oliva After celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2009, Abington Art Center is continuing its long history of highlighting regional talent with a series of solo exhibitions by amazing artists. This year's Solo Series continues with four artists carefully selected by a curatorial committee for simultaneous solo exhibitions in four gallery spaces on view. Steven Baris (Bala Cynwyd) categorizes his paintings as “spatial images” where geometric color blocks reference the constructed environment in the extensively built-up region around Philadelphia. In Virginia Bradley’s (Philadelphia) printmaking and mixed media work is a dialogue between the printed image and her experience as a traveler, collector and voyeur, a “synthesis of these ingredients”. The sculptural installation by Erica Zoë Loustau (West Grove) focuses on the human tendency to desire that which is elusive. Represented by a flock of birds, Loustau finds a wonderful aspect of humanity in this futility. Language, science, logic and emotion are the basis for paintings by Juri Kim Oliva (Philadelphia). Oliva incorporates tools of language that are meant to enhance, but may also limit, the power of communication.
