September 24, 2010
In 1967 a group of African-American teenagers in Philadelphia made this hybrid documentary/dramatization of their lives in the 12th and Oxford Street gang. Join Scribe for this in-person screening of The Jungle, declared “an American treasure” by the Library of Congress and selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry and a celebration of production facilitator Harold Haskins, filmmaker and long time member of the Dean’s Office at the University of Pennsylvania. (1967, 22 min) Program also features youth-produced work by the Big Picture Alliance, Village of Arts and Humanities, YES Philly and Scribe Presented in Partnership with the Big Picture Alliance, Village of Arts and Humanities and YES Philly.
