Have you wanted to take a film class at Bryn Mawr Film Institute but couldn’t commit to multiple sessions? Are you interested in learning more about a particular classic film? Do you want an entertaining, engaging, and comfortable way to spend a hot summer evening? If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, then the new Summer Classics Seminars are for you. Each stand-alone class is built around a different classic film, taught by one of Bryn Mawr Film Institute's most popular instructors. Just like the regular courses, each class will offer students a reading about the film, an introductory lecture before the film and a guided discussion after the film. In addition, your ticket to see the film on the big screen, as well as popcorn and a drink, are included. Paul Wright, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of English at Cabrini College, will lead this Summer Classics Seminar about Akira Kurosawa's

    The Hidden Fortress

. This high-flying adventure film, set in 16th century feudal Japan, involves two peasant farmers returning from war who escort a general and a princess across enemy lines. The dramatic action sequences are Kurosawa at his best and were a major influence on George Lucas’s Star Wars.
