Mary Gaitskill | Don't Cry: Stories
April 2, 2009
The stories in Don't Cry--Mary Gaitskill's first story collection in more than 10 years--share the psychological intensity and dramatic dénouement of her earlier collection, Bad Behavior. Michiko Kakutani, writing for the New York Times, remarks, ''Gaitskill writes with such authority, such radar-perfect detail, that she is able to make even the most extreme situations seem real.'' Gaitskill's previous books include the National Book Award-nominated novel Veronica and the PEN/Faulkner Award-nominated story collection Because They Wanted To; her stories often appear in the New Yorker, Harper's, and The Best American Short Stories series.
