Iron Age Theatre brings to the stage this adaptation of William Wharton's hypnotic tale about an unlikely friendship between two Philadelphia teenagers -- one a macho body builder, the other an ethereal dreamer; both traumatized during their army service in World War II. Moving from their teenage lives where Birdy tended birds and Al toughen himself to withstand his father's cruel beatings and the post war trauma as Al tries to bring his friend back to reality. Birdy examines their acceptance of each other's ''specialness'' and shares all our hopes that friendship and love can help reals the very real trauma's of war.
