Previn Plays and Conducts
April 2-April 4, 2009
Here are two contrasting views of musical domesticity. The huge tone poem by Richard Strauss is boldly stated like an early silent movie soundtrack, alternatingly comic and poignant in its portrayal. The Concerto by Mozart is the product of a different household altogether. Written at the height of his celebrity in Vienna, when friends and family were bustling about him day and night, the music is full of joy, mirth, and classical good sounds. Guest conductor André Previn highlights his talents as conductor and, for the first time since 1969, as orchestral soloist with The Philadelphia Orchestra.
