Three of today’s strongest choreographic voices unite for one cutting edge program. Bold and stripped-down, Christopher Wheeldon’s Polyphonia experiments with traditional ballet movement and results in inventive steps and duets. View one of the works that helped solidify Wheeldon’s place among the great choreographers of today. Like Polyphonia, William Forsythe’s The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude is a Company premiere. The modern master manipulates classical ballet technique in this powerful contemporary work. Its bold movement and vibrant costumes will leave you breathless. Twyla Tharp’s theatrical In the Upper Room lends fire and energy to the program. Phillip Glass’ thundering score propels this rigorous display of continuous, in-your-face athleticism. Wearing running shoes and ballet slippers, two groups of dancers shift through a stage filled with billows of smoke, their steps ranging from classical to unconventional. Organizers promise dance at its best: inventive, unrestrained, jubilant and highly entertaining.
