DANCE

Triple Bill with Carmen
October 21-October 24, 2010
Roland Petit’s seductive Carmen heats up Pennsylvania Ballet’s 2010-2011 Season. Inspired by the famous opera of the same name, Carmen is an irresistible blend of sensuality, theatricality and style. You’ll find yourself spellbound by the torrid and tragic affair between the temptress Carmen and her lover, Don José. The modern master manipulates classical ballet technique in this powerful contemporary work. Its bold movement and vibrant costumes will leave you breathless. Pennsylvania Ballet’s own Choreographer in Residence Matthew Neenan joins this program with a world premiere work, his 13th commission for the Company. Says Artistic Director Roy Kaiser, “Matthew hasn’t fallen into the trap of just relying on what works. I think that’s a sign of a good choreographer. He’s always looking for something new and a new way to present dance.” In the same evening, journey back to Pennsylvania Ballet’s roots with Concerto Barocco, a piece that highlights the Company’s very first performance in 1963. Clean, pure and exhilarating, Concerto Barocco’s unfettered choreography is a near-perfect reflection of the score crafted by Johan Sebastian Bach. A simply sizzling evening of ballet: not to be missed!
