Shemekia Copeland
April 2, 2011
Shemekia Copeland is the daughter of Texas blues guitar legend Johnny Clyde Copeland who brought her to the stage when she was only eight years old. She remains loyal to her blues roots while forging her own path. She has received three W.C. Handy Awards (Song of the Year, Blues Album of the Year, and Contemporary Female Artist of the Year) and a Grammy nomination, and recently won “Rising Star—Blues Artist” in Downbeat magazine’s critics poll. A powerful, soulful singer and performer, Shemekia Copeland is the hottest artist on the blues circuit today.
