Pianist and composer Noam Sivan fuses standard classical repertoire with improvisation in a faculty recital at the Curtis Institute of Music. Mr. Sivan's program combines well-known works with his creative response to them. Improvised preludes will precede Chopin's Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35, and Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58. The program also includes Chopin's Rondo in C major, Op. 73, and a work by Mr. Sivan, Fugue on Chopin's Funeral March Theme. Following his May recital at Curtis, he will take this program on tour, including a live radio broadcast in Israel. A member of the musical studies faculty at Curtis, Noam Sivan teaches Improvisation for Performers, a course that aims to make a creative bridge between improvisation and the standard repertoire by connecting existing styles and new modes of expression. As one of the young pioneers in the revival of improvisation in classical music, he has been widely praised by musicians and critics alike for his piano improvisations. He has appeared throughout North America, Europe, and his native Israel, combining composition, piano performance, live improvisation, and conducting.
