Experience and enjoy an evening of Carnatic (South Indian classical) vocal music by P. Unnikrishnan. A typical Carnatic concert usually lasts about three hours, and comprises a number of varied compositions. Carnatic songs are composed in specific ragas or scales. Each composition is set with specific notes and beats, but performers improvise extensively. Improvisation occurs in the melody of the composition as well as in using the notes to expound the beauty of the raga. Unnikrishnan is one of the most sought after Carnatic classical vocalists of today. Since his debut solo concert at Palghat, India, Unnikrishnan achieved growing recognition for his facile voice and musical talents. He can be credited with bridging the classical music to film music divide. In 1994 Unnikrishnan received his first film music offer and his very first songs, bagged him the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer. In this concert, Unnikrishnan will be accompanied by Embar Kannan on violin and Arjun Kumar on mridangam.
