SUMMARY:Kyo Daiko: Unidos da Filadelfia
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Kyo Daiko: Unidos da Filadelfia=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.phillyfunguide.com/event/detail/63031=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2009-12-19=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2009-12-19=0D=0A=0D=0AKyo Daiko is Philadelphia's first community Japanese drumming group. The taiko (literally “fat drum”) drum has been used in Japan for over 1000 years in religious ceremonies, military exercises, dramatic noh and kabuki performances, and in musical performances of the royal court, but Kyo Daiko's kumi daiko, or ensemble style of drumming, dates back only to the early 1950's. Kumi daiko features a group of players, playing different drums and blending rhythms into a single ensemble piece. Drummers beat the drums while moving their arms and bodies in dancelike motions, creating exciting music and a dynamic visual performance. Kumi taiko drumming is now often seen in Japan at festivals and other celebrations. Begun in the Spring of 2005, Unidos da Filadelfia is the city of Philadelphia's premier Escola De Samba in the tradition of Carnaval parade organizations in Brazil like the samba schools of Rio de Janeiro and blocos afros of Salvador da Bahia.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:7:30 pm
