SUMMARY:Film Course - Scorsese’s Cinema of Loneliness
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Film Course - Scorsese’s Cinema of Loneliness=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.phillyfunguide.com/event/detail/62597=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2010-02-03=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2010-02-24=0D=0A=0D=0AThis course explores the dynamic cinema of one of America’s foremost directors, with attention paid to the elements of autobiography in Scorsese’s films, as well as to the broader cultural critique he has developed. We examine how his films have been informed by profound questions about violence, alienation, faith, and genuine self-understanding (or self-delusion). In this light, Scorsese’s films will be appraised, having brought into American culture a shared vocabulary for discussing the nature of freedom in America and the nature of responsibility in a=0D=0A=criminal, absurd, or even fallen world.=0D=0A=Our exploration will cover many films, including Raging Bull, Mean Streets, The Last Temptation of Christ, and The Departed. This four-week class is taught at Bryn Mawr Film Institute by Paul Wright, Ph.D., Department of English, Cabrini College.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:Meets 4 Wednesdays, February 3, 10, 17, 24, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm
