SUMMARY:The Month of Moderns 1
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: The Month of Moderns 1=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.phillyfunguide.com/event/detail/55419=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2010-06-27=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2010-06-27=0D=0A=0D=0AMonth of Moderns I: works for choir and strings with the Philadelphia Virtuosi; Daniel Spalding, Director. The Crossing returns to the music of Bo Holten in Tallis Variations. Philadelphia composer Benjamin CS Boyle's brilliant Cantata: To One in Paradise, on words of Edgar Allen Poe, uses an old structure in new and virtuosic ways. Tarik O'Regan's Tryptich, is a moving, energetic, driven work that draws together diverse texts (William Penn, Wordsworth, Rumi, and Thomas Hardy are represented!). His writing for strings could not be more different than Boyle's! The profound, calm, ecstasy of Tavener's mature music for women and strings in The Bridegroom (1999) is like one, long, exhale. This concert's central work is the first of the Levine Project – three new works commissioned by The Crossing on words of Philip Levine: David Lang's new work for promises to be a substantial addition to the repertoire. The Levine Project was funded in part by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Music Project.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:4 pm
