 hiladelphia's first community Japanese drumming group. The taiko (literall
 y &ldquo\;fat drum&rdquo\;) drum has been used in Japan for over 1000 year
 s in religious ceremonies\, military exercises\, dramatic noh and kabuki p
 erformances\, and in musical performances of the royal court\, but Kyo Dai
 ko's kumi daiko\, or ensemble style of drumming\, dates back only to the e
 arly 1950's. Kumi daiko features a group of players\, playing different dr
 ums and blending rhythms into a single ensemble piece. Drummers beat the d
 rums while moving their arms and bodies in dancelike motions\, creating ex
 citing music and a dynamic visual performance. Kumi taiko drumming is now 
 often seen in Japan at festivals and other celebrations.  Begun in the Spr
 ing of 2005\, Unidos da Filadelfia is the city of Philadelphia's premier E
 scola De Samba in the tradition of Carnaval parade organizations in Brazil
  like the samba schools of Rio de Janeiro and blocos afros of Salvador da
